Bhawanipatna: At a time when the Odisha Government is acting tough against corrupt employees, a Grama Rakhi has been arrested for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 50,000 from the accused of a murder case in Kalahandi district.
According to reports, Grama Rakhi Akshaya Durga had taken the amount from six persons who were accused in a murder case. The matter pertains to the recovery of a body from a house at Bhnaeri village under Jaipatna police limits in the district on August 19.
Akshaya had assured the six of settling the probe against them and demanded Rs 50,000. Later, two of the accused were arrested and forwarded to court, following which family members of the arrestees had lodged a complaint against the Grama Rakhi.
On the basis of the complaint, police today arrested the Grama Rakhi. However, Akshaya claimed that he gave the amount to the in-charge of Badakut police outpost. On the other hand, the official has rubbished the claims.
