Odisha Gramya Bank robbery: Couple among 9 held, 6 kg gold seized

Bhubaneswar: The police today claimed to have arrested as many as nine persons in connection with Odisha Gramya Bank robbery at Mahabirod in Dhenkanal district of Odisha on February 3.

They also seized around 6 kg gold, Rs 4 lakh, three guns, 11 live bullets, three sharp weapons, 26 mobile phones and a four-wheeler from the arrested persons, sources said.

The arrested have been identified as Saddam Khan (29) of FCI Mundabazar in Angul, Niladri Pradhan (40) of Jharibahal, Ranjit Nahak (25) of Gunduri, Dinesh Nayak (26) of Banarpal Sukhuasahi, Rami Tudu (27) of Bijitala, Balabhadra Nayak (19) of Banarpal College Sahi, Jitendra Pradhan (26) of Parjang, Basant Bhoi (38) and Basant’s wife Jharana Bhoi (32) of Brundabanpur, police said.

Notably, some miscreants had robbed the bank of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 6 lakh at gunpoint on February 3.

The miscreants arrived at the bank on two bikes during the lunch hour and decamped with the ornaments and cash by threatening the staffers with guns and sharp weapons, police said.
