Odisha HC asks medical colleges to furnish details of sophisticated equipments

Cuttack: A division bench of the Orissa High Court today asked major government medical colleges of Odisha to apprise it of the sophisticated medical equipments and number of technicians available to operate them.

Taking up a suo motu PIL case the two Judge division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanju Panda and Justice SK Sahoo directed the government medical colleges including SCB, Cuttack and Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital to inform about important machines present at different branches.

The court further asked the medical colleges to tell whether they have written to the Odisha government for the sophisticated machines. Besides, the HC wanted to know whether trained technicians are available to operate these machines.

Based on news reports claiming that medical machinery worth crores of rupees are lying defunct, the HC took up the matter for hearing on its own.
