Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today paved way for five bar owners to run dance bars in Bhubaneswar.
The High Court, in its order, has asked the Excise Commissioner to give permission and allow the five dance bars to run their business as per the rule.
A two-judge Constitution bench comprising Chief Justice KS Jhaveri directed the Excise Commissioner to give permission to these dance bars in four weeks.
Earlier in the week, the Commissionerate Police had raided eleven bars on Cuttack Road in the state capital and rescued as many as 96 girls engaged as dancers in the bars.
As per Section 25 of the Bihar and Orissa Excise Act, 1915, the girls could not be employed at any bar for which the State Government has not issued licence for operation of dance bars. The licences have been given only for running bars.
