Odisha HC grants interim bail to parcel bomb blast accused Punjilal

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today granted interim conditional bail to Patnagarh parcel bomb blast case accused Punjilal Meher.

The court granted him bail for four days from January 24 to January 28 for conducting post-funeral rites of his mother, who passed away this month. It has also asked Meher not to speak to mediapersons during the period.

Notably, Meher had performed the last rites of his mother Indumati earlier this month after getting an one-day parole from Additional District Judge of Patnagarh. He has been lodged in Balangir jail for the last two years.

Worth mentioning, Meher was working as a lecturer in Jyoti Vikash College in Balangir district and had developed rivalry with his colleague Sanjukta Sahu, who replaced him as the principal. He allegedly sent a parcel bomb as a wedding gift for Sanjukta’s son to take revenge. Sanjukta’s son Soumya Sekhar and mother-in-law Jemanai were killed while opening the parcel on February 23, 2018.
