Odisha HC quashes petition against MP Bhaskar Rao in poll irregularities case

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Cuttack, Apr 26:

The Orissa High Court today quashed the petition filed against BJD Rajya Sabha MP N. Bhaskar Rao by Congress MLA from Dabugam Bhujabal Majhi alleging furnishing of false information by the former about his income in the affidavit he submitted at the time of filing his nomination.

The High Court quashed the petition for non-submission of copy of it to Rao and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on petitioner Bhujabal Majhi.

Seeking to declare Rao’s election null and void, the Dabugam MLA had alleged in the petition that Rao at the time of submission of the affidavit had stated that he didn’t owe any dues to the government. On the other hand, during the same period, Rao had appealed to the Income Tax department to allow him to pay in installments over Rs 40 lakh he owed to the department.
