Odisha HC rejects Ranjan Dash’ interim bail plea

The Odisha High Court today rejected the interim bail plea of Ranjan Dash, who has been arrested by the CBI for his involvement in the mega chit fund scam in the state.

The court had on reserved its verdict on Thursday after completing hearing on his interim bail plea. The court has fixed the next date of hearing inthe  matter for January first week next year.

Co-founder of the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group and one of the closest associates of Banki BJD MLA Pravat Tripathy, Dash had applied for bail in the Odisha High Court on the plea that he is suffering from cancer.

The court had taken up his bail plea and had directed the Acharya Harihar Cancer Research Institute (AHCRI) to examine him and submit a report.

Acting on the directive of the court, a four-member team of doctors of the Institute examined Dash and found that he was not suffering from cancer. In its report given on December 6, the team, however, did mention that Dash is having fibrosis complications.

Dash is among the 16 persons named in the preliminary chargesheet filed by the CBI in the AT Group chit fund scam at the special CBI court here on Thursday. He is currently lodged in the Jharpada jail here after being arrested by the CBI.
