Cuttack, May 8:

Orissa High Court today completed its hearing on the bail plea of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay and kept its verdict reserved.

The TMC MP is currently in jail after being arrested for his alleged complicity in Ponzi firm Rose Valley Group scam.

Bandyopadhyay’s defense counsel has pleaded for grant of bail to his client citing critical health condition of his client while claiming that no money belonging to Rose Valley Group has been directly transferred from his client’s account so therefore there is no evidence of money trail.

However, the CBI argued that Bandyopadhyay and the management of Rose Valley Group had influenced investors. The CBI further argued that in the event of an influential politician being released on bail he can influence witnesses.

“He is taking normal regular medicines and nothing else. Without there being some instruction from the court, it is unsafe to rely on some obliging reports by medical boards constituted by some private hospitals,” stated Raghav Saranam, CBI’s counsel.

On the other hand, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch continued with its interrogation of Rose Valley Group chief Gautam Kundu for the second day today. The EOW has got Kundu on a four-day remand for interrogation. The EOW has got Kundu on remand for interrogation in connection with a chit fund case of Soro.

According to a senior official of the Crime Branch, while Kundu was the Chairman of the Group, he had duped around Rs 500 crore from investors in Odisha through four lakh agents appointed by him.
