Odisha hockey star Birendra Lakra in national team for Champions Trophy

Bhubaneswar, Nov 24:

The Hockey India today inducted defender Birendra Lakra of Odisha in the Men’s Hockey Team for Hero Men’s Champions Trophy 2014 scheduled to begin at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from December 6.

The team was picked basis the selection trials conducted at MDC National Stadium, New Delhi on November 18.

The Indian team would reach here on November 27.

Lakra, who has played 87 international matches, will play his first international match in front of the home crowd.

The team will be led by captain Sardar Singh and vice captain PR Sreejesh.

India will play their first match against Germany on December 6 and later meet Argentina and the Netherlands on December 7 and 9 respectively.
The event would be concluded on December 14.
