Odisha: Hotel owner lodged at jail dies mysteriously

Bhubaneswar: An under trial prisoner (UTP) lodged at the Jharpada jail in the Odisha capital died under mysterious circumstances today. The deceased was identified as Hotel Solan In owner Kamalakanta Das. Following his arrest in a Rs 10-lakh fraud case last month, Das was lodged at the Jharpada jail.

Kasuhik Das, son of the deceased, alleged the jail authorities refused to provide his father medicines despite being aware of his medical complications.

Demanding a probe into the UTP’s death due to the alleged negligence of jail authorities, the deceased’s son said strict action must be taken against the persons responsible for the matter.

Advocate of the deceased, Raghunath Das said the UTP died due to the negligence of the Jharpada jail authorities. A petition will be filed before the Odisha State Human Rights Commission to intervene and demand for compensation.
