Odisha HSC results: Probe into wrong valuation ordered

Following massive resentment among the students and guardians over faulty evaluation in the Third Language papers in the annual Odisha High School Certificate (HSC) examinations results of which were announced on Wednesday, the department of School and Mass Education on Thursday ordered a probe.

“I have the reports about the faulty evaluation that has occurred due to a computer systemic error. Investigation into the matter is on. The department has sought a report from the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) authorities. Appropriate action would be taken on the basis of the report”, School and Mass Education secretary Usha Padhee told reporters in Bhubaneswar this morning.

Meanwhile, efforts are on by the Board officials to rectify the error.

Talking to newsmen in Cuttack today, BSE president Dakshya Prasad Nanda said the students would get the revised mark sheets by Friday.

“The students can download their revised mark sheet in the evening and they need not apply for revision of their marks”, he added.

It may be mentioned that there was widespread resentment among the students and guardians soon after the results were announced on Wednesday.

To their utter dismay, the students, securing 90 percent marks in the subjective papers, found gross anomaly in the marks secured in the Third Language papers in Sanskrit and Hindi, in the optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets, which were evaluated by computers.

Protesting the faulty evaluation, hundreds of angry students and guardians staged a dharna in front of the BSE head office in Cuttack.

However, they withdrew the dharna after they were assured by the BSE authorities that they would look into their grievances at the earliest.
