Bhubaneswar: The counting of monetary and other donations made in the donation boxes (Hundi) of Majhighariani temple at Odisha’s Rayagada town fetched huge sums today.

The temple authorities found cash worth Rs 89.72 lakh from the nine donation boxes of the shrine, sources said.

They also got 62 grams of gold, 2.3 kg silver and 66 pieces of foreign currencies during the Hundi counting, they added.

“The money collected from the donation boxes of the shrine has been deposited at the main branch of Utkal Gramya Bank. We will spend the interest earnings on the welfare of the devotees,” said Majhighariani temple managing committee trustee Radhakrushna Dalei.

The Hundi counting began at 9 am and continued till 8 pm. The temple authorities engaged over 200 volunteers for counting of the monetary donations, sources said.

Notably, the authorities had collected cash worth Rs 68.74 lakh, 53 gram gold and 1.9 kg silver from the donation boxes of the shrine in September, 2023.
