Bhubaneswar: A first year student of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Odisha’s Ganjam district was found hanging in his hostel room today.
The deceased has been identified as Samaysatya Murmu (18), son of Bajun Murmu, of Chandipur Defence Colony in Balasore.
Samaysatya got himself enrolled into IISER in 2023-24 academic year. He was staying in Boys’ Hostel-1 on the premises of the institute in Golanthara area of Ganjam, sources said.
The 18-year-old was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room at around 11 am in the morning, sources added.
On being informed by one of the sanitary staffers of the hostel, the authorities of the IISER rushed the first year student to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. However, he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
“We have informed the incident to the deceased’s family. We did not find any suicide note from the hostel room. We will wait for the postmortem report to know the exact reason behind his death,” said Golanthara IIC Vivekanand Mahant.
