Odisha: Ill-gotten assets of former SCO worth over Rs 1.07 Crore confiscated

Malkangiri/ Bhubaneswar: A special court in Bhubaneswar today confiscated the ill-gotten assets of a former soil conservation officer (SCO) worth more than Rs 1.07 Crore. The SCO identified as Dasarathi Tripathy was previously working in Malkangiri district.

An official source said that the Authorised Officer of Special Court ordered for confiscation of Tripathy’s assets worth Rs 1,07,66,430. The SCO has already retired from his service. He was earlier charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a disproportionate assets (DA) case, and the court convicted him.

It is pertinent to mention here that SCO Tripathy was charge-sheeted in the Vigilance PS case U/s 13(2)r/w13(1)(e) of the PC Act, 1988 as he was found in possession of the assets disproportionate to his legal sources of income on July 24, 2019.

A team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths had caught an officer on special duty (OSD) red-handed on March 28, 2024, while he was demanding and accepting a bribe in Nuapada district. The OSD identified as Narendra Kumar Chandrakar was working in the Revenue Section of the collectorate in Nuapada.

On the same day, Vigilance sleuths caught a Commercial Tax and Goods and Services Tax (GST) officer red-handed while he was accepting a bribe in Puri district. The CTO and GST official, identified as Manas Ranjan Behera, had been working in the Enforcement Unit.
