Owning moral responsibility for the Congress party’s dismal performance in elections to the Zilla Parishads of Odisha, B.K. Hairprasad has tendered resignation to the General Secretary post of the All India Congress Committee and membership of the AICC Working Committee, The Hindu reported.

However, sources close to PCC president Prasad Harichandan said that the state unit has not received any communication in this regard.

On the other hand, Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa told a news agency: “As I have been told, he resigned because Zilla Parishads results of Odisha were not good and therefore Hariprasad resigned in order to strengthen the hands of Rahul Gandhi so he (Gandhi) could have his own team and may take decisions in regards to whom he would like to have as his office bearers.”

OST tried to contact BK Hariprasad over phone. However, the calls went unanswered and Hariprasad was unavailable for comments.

Worth mentioning, Hariprasad came in the firing of his party colleagues over his no show in the Panchayat polls campaigning. Besides, a section of Congress workers under the aegis of Lulu Sena had barged into his hotel room here and heckled him for not turning up for the funeral of Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra alias Lulu Mohapatra at his hometown Brahmagiri, hardly 70 km from the capital city.

Notably, AICC had appointed BK Hariprasad as Odisha Congress in-charge in June 2013 in place of Jagdish Tytler.
