Kanas: Hundreds of irate women today locked up Kanas chairman and block development officer (BDO) alleging irregularities in the recent selection of master book-keeper (MBK) and community resource person (CRP) in several Gram Panchayat Level Federations (GPLFs) in Puri district.
“Steps have not been taken despite bringing apparent irregularities to the knowledge of the authorities concerned. Unfairly selected MBKs and CRPs have been working in respective panchayats. No probe into the unfair selections is being done,” the agitating women alleged.
“We had submitted a grievance application to PD and ADM Sirs in this regard and have been running from pillar to post for nearly four months. If our demand for a hearing will not be met by August 17, then, we will stage Dharna (sit-in) in front of the block office and intensify our protest. Out of 28 panchayats and except only three to four, irregularities have been done in the remaining panchayats. The BDO, GPLF presidents and secretaries, local sarpanchs and their nominees, including the MLA, are involved in the irregularities,” social activist and deprived MBK applicant from Khandahota panchayat stated.
Tension was triggered following the incident and local police reached the spot to tackle the situation.
“Police have been trying to convince the protesting women. Things are under control and we are alert to avert any untoward incident,” a senior official of the Kanas police station said.
