Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, a team of Infocity police busted a notorious dacoity gang from near a playground in Patia locality of Bhubaneswar, when the gang was planning to loot a liquor shop. Police have arrested five persons in this connection, a senior official said today.

The arrested are key accused SK Islam alias Kadam and his four accomplices Romy Nayak, Kartik Behera, Jitendra Samal, and K Sibaji. Kadam is a history-sheeter and there are as many as 48 criminal cases pending against him in different police stations of the State Capital and outside.

“Kadam used to commit crimes after being released from jail custody on bail. He is involved in several crimes such as dacoity, snatching and theft. We have seized two crowbars, a knife, a liquor bottle, and several contraband items from the possession of the arrested persons,” the senior cop stated.

The gang members used to reside in rented houses in different localities of Bhubaneswar and commit crimes. A case under Section 110 will be registered against the arrested, Zone VI ACP expressed.
