Baripada: A police inspector from Odisha's Mayurbhanj district will be part of a CBI team to probe the Manipur violence. Biswa Prakash Rout, currently posted as Inspector in-charge (IIC) of Kuliana police station in Mayurbhanj, has been deputed to the CBI headquarters in New Delhi for the assignment.

As per reports, the CBI had been on the lookout for able police officers from across the country and had requested various states, including Odisha, to recommend names of efficient personnel from their respective administrations to be part of the investigation.

The central agency had mobilised 53 police officials, including 29 female personnel to probe the two-month long violence that ripped the State of Manipur, claiming over 160 lives in ethnic clashes.

Last month, it took over the investigation with 27 FIRs lodged in this connection. Sources said the CBI has already already registered eight cases including two related to the alleged sexual assault of women during the clashes.

Official sources informed that Rout has been relieved with immediate effect to join  the CBI and will be repatriated to Odisha Police on completion of the assignment.
