The Odisha government has earmarked Rs 2628.51 crore to build infrastructure for ‘Adarsh Vidyalaya’ (model school) in all blocks within a period of five years, informed School & Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra in the Assembly during Question Hour today.

“An amount of Rs 2628.51 crore will be spent within the next five years for developing infrastructure for ‘Adarsh Vidyalaya’ in all blocks of the state,” said Mishra in his reply to a question on the status of ‘Adarsh Vidyalaya’ in the state.
“The corporate sector has expressed its desire for constructing ‘Adarsh Vidyalaya’. While Tata Group will construct 30, Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) will construct 25 and JSPL will construct 10. No existing school will be converted to Adarsh Vidyalaya,” he added.
The Opposition, however, targeted the government for mismanagement in schools meant for the differently-abled.
“Schools for the differently-abled are in shambles. There is no infrastructure in these schools. Higher officials are seeking bribes to enhance the number of seats in these schools. The government should start schools for the differently-abled on Karnataka model,” suggested Congress MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria.
