Odisha IPS Officers’ Association condemns attack on Delhi Police personnel

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chapter of IPS Officers’ Association today condemned the violent attack on Delhi Police personnel by lawyers and expressed solidarity with them.

“The IPS Association, Odisha Chapter unanimously and univocally condemns the violent attack on Delhi Police personnel by advocates in various courts in Delhi. This is totally unacceptable in any democracy. The Association stands in complete solidarity with our colleagues of Delhi Police. We demand the Union Government at the highest level to take up the matter with the appropriate authority,” the Association said in a release.

Odisha-cadre senior police officer and CRUT MD Arun Bothra too condemned the Delhi incident saying “So easy to punish cops. So difficult to enforce the law”, through a tweet.

Thousands of officers’ families and children this afternoon joined a protest rally at India Gate seeking security of the police personnel. Holding placards with messages like “Save the Saviours”, the protesters gheraoed the Delhi Police headquarters today.

On Saturday, lawyers and police clashed at the Tis Hazari court complex over a parking dispute. The lawyers alleged members of their group were injured after police opened fire but police said shots were fired in the air to “ensure the safety of undertrials”.
