While death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Odisha’s Malkangiri reached 105 with the death of three more children in the district today, a public interest litigation (PIL) on the vector-borne disease assuming epidemic proportions in the district was filed in the Orissa High Court.
The Health Secretary and Malkangiri Collector have been made parties in the PIL.
The PIL filed by lawyer Siddhartha Prasad Das on behalf of Ashok Kumar Patnaik of Satiguda in Malkangiri district has cited deteriorated health service in the district, malnutrition among children and failure of various government schemes as cause for the spread of the disease.
