Odisha JE deaths: Pradeep Majhi withdraws hunger strike

Six days after resorting to hunger strike in front of Raj Bhavan here, Congress Odisha unit Vice President Pradeep Majhi today withdrew the stir after submitting a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir.

Notably, Majhi and five others were on a hunger strike in front of Raj Bhavan since December 21 demanding Rs 12 lakh ex-gratia each to the families of those kids who died due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and filling up of vacant posts of 55 doctors at hospitals in Malkangiri district.

In order to press the demands, Congress today staged a two-hour long road blockade across all the district headquarters of the state between 10 am and 12 pm.

Congress activists led by Pottangi MLA Rama Chandra Kadam and Laxmipur MLA Kailash Chandra Kulesika staged a road blockade at Traffic Square in Koraput disrupting vehicular movement for two hours.

Besides, road blockades were also staged in Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Berhampur.
