Odisha recrutiment drive: Problem with website now ‘sorted out’

Authorities in charge of the conduct of the four-day special recruitment drive for technical, management and pharmacy graduates of Odisha claimed on Thursday evening claimed that the problem faced by candidates in registering themselves for the fair on the website http://cpcdtet.nic.in/Nijukti.aspx had now been sorted out.

“The website is now working fine,” said sources in the office of the vice chancellor (VC) of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), who is coordinating the recruitment drive.

As per the sources in the Employment Technical Education and Training (ET & T) department, a total of 11, 737 technical students have registered for the recruitment drive so far. Out this, the number of B.Tech students was 10, 202, M.Tech- 237, MCA- 588, MBA- 625, B Pharma- 65 and M.Pharma- 20.

Earlier in the day, BPUT VC Prof JK Satapathy had said a four-member team from the university was working in tandem with experts of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which had developed the site, to solve the problem after hundreds of aspiring candidates complained that they were facing problem in registering themselves on the website. They had complained that the site did not open despite several attempts.

Authorities, who had earlier attributed the problem to the heavy traffic  on the site, now say it had been completely sorted out.

Prof Satapathy had earlier in the day said  the website was hacked yesterday from Europe and the experts were working on it.

On being asked whether BPUT was contemplating any alternative site to solve the problem, the VC had said, “We stick to the server because NIC is the best in giving 24×7 service. It is reliable and provides total security to the website.” He, however, said, “As the future of lakhs of students registering for the job fair are involved, it is our foremost concern to ensure the security of the site in which NIC is the best we have.”

When asked about the poor response from companies , Prof Satpathy said; “I have contacted 40 to 50 companies today requesting them to participate in the job fair. Their representatives have said they would respond soon about their participation after discussing the matter with their board of directors,”. It may be noted that only five companies had evinced interest in participating in the recruitment drive.

The VC further said if the problem of registration recurs, then the deadline for registration could be extended further by the high-level committee constituted to oversee the drive. While the BPUT VC is the chairman of the committee, the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) and the Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) also have their representatives.

Asked if students would be allowed to regsiter for the job fair on the spot, the VC said it was not possible now.

The four-day special recruitment drive is scheduled to be organised by the Odisha government at the Kalinga stadium here from September 17.

Employment and Technical Education and Training (ET&T) department and BPUT had already invited several big players at the state and national level companies that include PSUs, said a senior official of ET&T department dealing with the matter.

It may be noted that while announcing the job fair, the state government had claimed that about 300 companies would participate in it to recruit eligible candidates for their companies.

According to sources, the first two days of the drive will be earmarked for B Tech, M Tech and MCA pass outs. MBA degree holders will take part on the third day while the last day will be reserved for placement of pharmacy graduates.
