Odisha: Journalist en route to hosp with ill son thrashed by cop

Keonjhar: A police sub-inspector allegedly thrashed a journalist in Odisha’s Keonjhar town today when the latter was taking his ill son to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

As per a police complaint lodged by the victim, identified as Subrat Kumar Swain, district correspondent of Odia daily Sambad, he was heading towards the DHH with his 4-year-old son who was suffering from fever.

A police constable scolded Swain as he reached near Hotel Ajanta here. Though Swain showed his identity card to sub-inspector Ashutosh Mohanty and apprised him about the illness of the child, the police official attacked the journalist by thrashing him with a stick, the complainant alleged in the FIR.

The Keonjhar Town Police have started investigation into the matter. Worth mentioning, the state government has exempted commuting and shifting of patients to hospitals from the coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
