Odisha: Jumbo kills man in Dhenkanal, elephant found dead in Sonepur

Dhenkanal/Sonepur: An elephant trampled a man to death at Kahliborei under Hindol Forest Range in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today.

The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Samal of Govindpur village. He had gone to a farmland this morning when the pachyderm attacked the man and crushed him to death on the spot.

On the other hand, carcass of an elephant was found at Chandali Reserve Forest under Ulunda Range in Sonepur district today. Locals spotted the animal lying dead early this morning and informed the Forest officials.

Though the reason behind the death of the jumbo is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that the elephant was shot dead. The officials have started investigation into the matter.
