Odisha: Junior Engineer in Vigilance net for accepting bribe

Patnagarh: The Vigilance officials arrested a Junior Engineer working at the Patnagarh NAC office in Balangir district on charges of accepting bribe to pass a bill towards construction of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Based on a complaint filed by one Tankadhara Kumbhara of Rampur in Patnagarh, the sleuths raided the NAC office and arrested the Junior Engineer, Debi Prasad Mishra while accepting Rs 3,000 from the complainant.

The government provides money to people from poor economic background to build houses under the Centre sponsored PMAY scheme.

Tankadhara, who was allotted one house under the scheme, visited the NAC office to get the last installment of the money provided by the government. But the Junior Engineer asked for Rs 3,000 bribe to approve the bill towards the house construction.

Following this, Tankadhara lodged a complaint with the Vigilance. Today the sleuths laid a trap and caught Debi Prasad red handed while taking the bribe money.

After a brief questioning, the Vigilance officials arrested the Junior Engineer and took him to Balangir.
