Odisha: ‘Kajal-Bitu-Madhu’ burglary gang busted; over 1 kg gold ornaments seized, 4 held

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in the Odisha capital here claimed to have busted a notorious burglary gang by arresting four persons in this regard today.

The cops have reportedly seized gold ornaments weighing around 1 kg and silver ornaments weighing over 1.5 kg from the arrested persons. They also seized Rs 3.25 lakh in cash from the arrested burglars.

The special squad of the Commissionerate Police busted the gang by arresting three of its members and one receiver of the stolen items.

The arrested have been identified as Subhrakanta Behera (33) alias Kajal in Paradeep area in Jagatsinghpur, Bishwajit Das alias Bitu of Mangalpur area in Jajpur, Madhusudan Mohanty (34) alias Madhu of Jagatsinghpur and Sudam Charan Sahoo of Tirtol area in Jagatsinghpur district.

Sahoo is a goldsmith and he owns a jewellery store at Paradeep. Sahoo used to buy stolen gold and silver items from the burglary gang.

Members of the gang were involved in several cases of burglary in Khurda including the capital city, Puri, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nayagarh and Kendrapara districts in Odisha.

The inter-district burglary gang was known as ‘Kajal-Bitu-Madhu’ gang in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur districts, police said.

The gang was involved in at least three cases of burglary at Kanan Vihar, Nandankanan area and Infocity locality in the capital city. Members of the gang were targeting locked residential buildings, they added.

Soon after arresting the burglars, the police took them to various places in the city to recreate the crime scenes.
