Bhubaneswar: Kapileshwar temple, located in Odisha capital, has been declared as an ancient monument of national importance by the Centre.
The Ministry of Culture has issued a notification in this regard recently.
The Centre had earlier issued two months’ notice for announcing the shrine as a monument of national importance. However, no objection was received from public in this regard, sources said.
“Exercising the powers conferred by Sub-Section (3) of Section 4 of Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act-1958, the Centre hereby declares that the Kapileshwar temple in Khurda district of Odisha to be an ancient monument of national importance,” said the notification.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will take care of the conservation work at Kapileshwar temple, sources said.
Notably, Kapileshwar temple, located in the Old Town area of Odisha capital, is a popular Shaivite shrine in the state.
