Kamakhyanagar: The development of science is yet to keep superstition at bay as the practice is even seen on hospital premises to bring a dead person back to life.
Such incident was reported from Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH) in Dhenkanal district of Odisha where relatives of a dead patient performed exorcism to give life to his mortal body.
According to reports, Niranjan Biswal of Ekatali village under Kamakhyanagar police limits suffered a snakebite at his farmland on Friday morning. His family immediately rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Even after the doctors clinically declared the patient dead, the bereaved family members called a sorcerer, who performed exorcism on the dead body on the medical campus, with a hope to see their loving person alive.
When the hospital authorities reached the place, the relatives along with the sorcerer already had left the premises.
"The family members were asked to take the body after declaring the patient dead. When we learnt about practice of exorcism at the hospital, prompt action was taken to prevent such odd practice to take place on the hospital campus," said Kamakhyanagar SDH Chief Medical Officer Dr Digambar Sahoo, advising people to bring snakebite patients immediately to hospital for medical treatment.
