Odisha: Kutcha, WBM roads in urban areas to be upgraded into pavered ones

Bhubaneswar: All the Kutcha and WBM roads in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Odisha will be upgraded to pavered roads to enhance the livability of the cities.

The state government has decided to upgrade all the Kutcha and WBM roads in the ULBs to pavered roads as part of transformative urban governance under the 5T principle. The work will be completed by October, 2023.

G Mathi Vathanan, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development, has issued instructions in this regard to all the ULBs.

As mandated by the government, all the Kutcha and WBM Lanes / bylanes / streets /roads in all ULBs will be upgraded to pavered roads on saturation basis.

It has been decided to take up the Kutcha roads in the first phase and once substantial progress is achieved in respect of Kutcha roads, the WBM roads can be upgraded in the second phase.

The scope of work for upgradation of the roads must cover one year defect liability period and further two years of repair and maintenance to ensure quality work, sources said.

A standardized draft tender document will be soon sent to the ULBs for the road upgradation work. The expenditure for upgradation of the roads will be sourced from UNNATI and other funds, sources added.

The ULBs have been instructed to take immediate steps for preparation of estimates and submit the same to the Housing and Urban Development department by May 5.
