Odisha lass bags bronze in Asian Amateur Chess Championship

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Aparajita Gochhikar made both the state and country proud with her achievement by winning bronze in Asian Amateur Chess Championship 2017 at Chiang Mai in Thailand.

Aparajita finished third with seven points (six victories, two draw and one loss) out of 9 rounds at the international chess competition that concluded on Thursday.

She is among the two Indians who brought glory for the nation in women category at Asian Amateur Chess Championship 2017.

While Aparajita secured third position, Sandhya G with 7.5 points bagged silver medal for India in the chess event. Cuizon Loreshyl of Philippines won gold at the championship.

Total six Indians were among the participants from 23 countries had taken part both in open and woman categories in Asian Amateur Chess Championship 2017, which started from Nov 23 till 30.

Aparajita, daughter of Ram Narayan Gochhikar and Gita Gochhikar of Puri district, is an Alumnus of KIIT University.
