Odisha lawyers to continue cease work stir till Sept 24

Cuttack: The agitating lawyers decided to continue cease work strike across the State till September 24 over ‘police excess’.

The move came at general council meeting of Orissa High Court Bar Association here today.

With the cease work strike is being extended, the long impasse over lawyers-police spat seems to continue for long days.

Meanwhile, the probe is underway following allegation was reported against police for attacking a lawyer in Cuttack.

The lawyers across the State had joined the strike after Orissa HC Bar Association launched cease work strike against attack on a lawyer by cops in Cuttack last month.

The strike was called by the HC Bar Association after a lawyer was beaten up by the police near Nua Bazaar bridge on August 28 morning.

Taking action against the erring cops, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh suspended two Constables and a Havildar in connection with the attack on the lawyer.

The DCP suspended Constables BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and Havildar PK Behera for police excesses.

Besides, a one-month notice has been served to Home Guard Kishore Samal seeking his explanation, following which necessary action would be taken, Singh had informed at a Press meet on August 30.

However, the lawyers demanded arrest of the cops who were involved in the incident.

Several meetings have been held to end the deadlock over lawyers-police spat; however, in vain.
