Odisha: Lecturer held for providing fake Plus-II certificate to student

Bhubaneswar: The police have arrested a lecturer on charges of providing a fake Plus-II certificate to a student in Khurda district of Odisha.

The accused has been identified as Tapan Kumar Prusti, a Political Science lecturer at Srijagannath Mahavidyalaya at Kaipadar in Khurda.

Prusti had allegedly provided a Plus-II certificate from an open university to one Abhishek Kumar Samantray (18) of Dadhimachhagadia. However, the certificate was later found to be fake, sources said.

Abhishek had earlier failed to clear the Plus-II Arts examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Odisha. He had reportedly paid Rs 33,000 to Prusti in two installments through PhonePe and Google Pay to get the certificate from the open university.

Abhishek had lodged a complaint in this regard with Khurda Sadar police on August 3.

Subsequently, the police had registered a case in this regard under Sections 420, 465 and 471 of the IPC and begun a probe.

“During investigation, we found that the certificate provided by the lecturer is a fake one. The accused lecturer has been arrested and produced in a local court,” said a police officer.
