Odisha: Lift Irrigation Dy Executive Engineer held for taking Rs 50,000 bribe

Bhubaneswar: Sarat Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Executive Engineer (DEE) of Lift Irrigation at Angul, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a Contractor today.

Pradhan allegedly sought the bribe to handover electrical estimates of two projects to the contractor and release the withheld amount of civil cost. The entire bribe money has been recovered from Pradhan, said an official of the Vigilance department.

The contractor had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Vigilance department. Subsequently, a trap was laid to catch Pradhan red-handed while accepting the bribe, added the official.

“Our officials are now conducting simultaneous searches at two locations of Pradhan in connection with disproportionate assets,” he said.

The Vigilance Police Station in Cuttack has registered a case (No. 27/2023) in this regard under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.
