The depression formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours, said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

“The depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during past three hours, intensified into a deep depression and lay centred at 8.30 am today over eastcentral Bay of Bengal, near Latitude 15.5 degree N and Longitude 93.0 degree East, about 420 km north of Port Blair and 360 km west-southwest of Yangon. The system is most likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. It will move northeastwards and reach close to north Myanmar coast by today evening. Thereafter, it will recurve initially north-northwestwards skirting Myanmar coast and then northwestwards towards northwest Bay of Bengal,” a MeT bulletin said.

“Deep depression is lay centered at about 950 km east-southeast of Gopalpur. The system is most likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. The cyclone may recurve from Myanmar coast and the model indicates that it would move towards northwest Bay of Bengal. The impact of the cyclonic storm on Odisha could be known around October 26-27. It is likely to have impact on central and north Odisha,” said Bhubaneswar Met director Sarat Chandra Sahu.

The weatherman has hoisted a warning stating fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into interior/distant sea along Odisha coast.
