Odisha likely to experience rain on New Year

Bhubaneswar: People in some parts of Odisha may ring in the New Year with umbrellas instead of firecrackers as rain is on the cards till January 3 next year.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), a fresh Western Disturbance is very likely to affect Western Himalayan region from December 30 night onwards. Under its influence, major parts of northwest and central India very likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanies with hailstorm at isolated places during December 31, January 1 and over East India on January 2, 2020.

On New Year, light to moderate rainfall likely in one or two places of Odisha as well as hailstorm in western region of the state. The rain to dampen festive mood especially in southern region. The remaining parts of the state may witness light rainfall along with fall in temperature till January 3, 2020.

As per the forecast by Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, light rainfall is likely in several towns in northern parts of Odisha and one or two places in southern Odisha on December 27. The rain is also expected in one or two places over Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada and Nabarangpur districts on December 28.

The change in weather is likely from December 28 night as the weathermen predicted shallow to moderate fog in isolated pockets over Odisha during next 2 days.

The temperature may fall by 2-4 degree C from December 28 till 30 and again change in temperature likely from December 31 night.
