Odisha likely to experience thunderstorm during next five days; Check IMD’s forecast

Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm is likely to occur in many districts of Odisha during the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted.

Due to likely interaction of middle tropospheric westerly trough with lower level easterly and moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface wind and scattered rainfall to fairly widespread rainfall over the districts of Odisha within the next 5 days, the IMD said.

People are advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas, the agency added.

Below is the day-wise thunderstorm-related forecast for Odisha by the IMD.

* Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Angul (valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 15.03.2023).

* Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Rayagada (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 15.03.2023to 0830 hrs IST of 16.03.2023).

* Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 16.03.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 17.03.2023).

* Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore Mayurbhanj and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 17.03.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2023).

* Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.03.2023).
