Purunakatak: Two policemen today sustained grievous injuries after the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a speeding car coming from the front near Kakharuphal locality on NH-57 in Boudh. Locals staged roadblock following the incident as ambulance vehicle did not reach timely.
The injured were identified as Havildar Pramod Panigrahy and home guard Tukuna, both working in Adenigada outpost under Purunakatak police limits in the district.
The motorcycle had a head-on collision when it was on its way from Charichhaka to Madhapur. A leg of the Havildar got separated from his body and a leg of Tukuna was severely damaged in the road mishap. The injured were rescued by some locals and admitted to a nearby hospital, an eyewitness said.
Initially, the duo was admitted to Adenigada community health centre (CHC). Later, they were shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for further treatment after their health conditions deteriorated.
However, unusual delay in ambulance vehicle reaching the spot irked many. Vehicular movement was completely disrupted for quite a long time due to the roadblock. The roadblock was withdrawn after Harbhanga tehsildar committed to provide a vehicle to the CHC within coming 15 days.
