Bhubaneswar: Floodwater from Mahanadi river has entered Bhattarika temple in Baramba area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.

The floodwater has reached the temple premises and the sanctum sanctorum, said an official of Endowment department in Cuttack today.

“The idol of Goddess Bhattarika has been shifted to a shelter house on nearby Ratnagiri hill. The Goddess will be worshipped at the shelter house tomorrow (August 3),” added the official.

The district administration, meanwhile, asked the devotees not to visit the temple tomorrow.

“We are closely monitoring the situation. We have made all arrangements for performance of rituals of the Goddess at the shelter house,” said the official.

Bhattarika temple, a famous Shakti Peeth in Odisha, is located on the banks of Mahanadi at Sasanga village under Baramba tehsil in Cuttack.

As per the legend, Goddess Durga had appeared in the form of Bhattarika in front of Lord Parashurama to help him in his battle against Sahasrajuna.
