Odisha man, 2 sons get life term in murder case

Jagatsinghpur: The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Kujang in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district today convicted a person and his two sons in a murder case and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on convicts Basudev Parida and his sons Naresh and Jagdish.

The case pertains to the murder of Ratnakar Rout at Unchanuagaon village under Erasama police limits in the district in August, 2013. Basudev and his sons had attacked Ratnakar after the deceased took wood from a fallen tree.

Ratnakar sustained critical injuries in the attack and was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the wife of Ratnakar, Erasama police had arrested the trio and forwarded them to the court.

After pronouncement of quantum of punishment by the court today, the three will be lodged at the Kujang sub-jail in the district.
