The accused, identified as Sanjay Kishan, is a resident of Kendmal village under Dharuadih police station of Sundargarh district and the eldest son of deceased Tularam Kishan (60).

As per sources in the police, retired Tularam had two wives and was not on good terms with the first wife, with whom he has two sons and a daughter; Sanjay being the eldest. He would often beat her up during his visits to Kendmal and otherwise stay at his second wife’s house at Medinipur.

Things turned ugly when Sanjay visited Medinipur and found Tularam at his house with hos second wife at about 4 pm on April 3. He also accused his step-mother to be the reason for their plight.

Following abuse at each other and war of words between them over the issue, an irate Sanjay picked up a stick lying there and beat up his step-mother and a little later his father, gravely injuring him, and fled the scene.

On Friday night, Tularam became serious, vomited blood and called up the driver of his Tata magic vehicle to take him to hospital. But the driver could not come for some reason and his second son Hari Kishan came and admitted to Sundargarh hospital. But Tularam succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.

Based on the FIR lodged in Town police station by Hari Kishan, town police registered a case on Saturday night. On Sunday, the police detained Sanjay Kishan for interrogation during which he confessed to have beaten his father on Friday afternoon.

On Monday afternoon, he was arrested and forwarded to court.  Police have also seized the blood stained stick.

“Accused Sanjay Kishan has been arrested and forwarded to court for killing his father today,” said PK Jena, IIC of town police station of Sundargarh.
