Odisha man arrested for killing unborn baby by kicking pregnant wife

Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested here yesterday for allegedly kicking his pregnant wife in her stomach for which she lost her unborn baby.

The accused husband has been sent to a judicial custody in Nimapada after a local court rejected his bail application on Monday.

According to reports, Basant Kumar Jena (38) of Madhupur village under Uttara police outpost on outskirts of Bhubaneswar had married Rajalakshmi Jena (33), a slum dweller at Saheed Nagar area of the city in the year 2010.

Nine years after their wedding, Basant allegedly hit his pregnant wife and kicked her stomach during a domestic fight that led to death of their unborn baby in February 2019.

In this connection, a case was registered at the Pipili Police Station. Ten months after the case , the accused was arrested by the police and forwarded to a local court on Monday.
