Odisha: Man arrested for land fraud

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch (CB) today arrested a person for his alleged involvement in a serious land fraud case.

The accused was identified as Chandradhwaja Sahoo of Nuabanta village under Saheed Nagar police limits on the outskirts of the city.

EOW have slapped various charges under section 467, 468, 471, 418, 420, 120 (B) of IPC against the accused and forwarded him to a local court here today.

According to CB DIG Rajesh Kumar, the matter came to light after Chinmaya Kumar Acharya, Tehsildar, Bhubaneswar lodged a written complaint report with the EOW office last year.

The DIG said the case pertains to fraudulent settlement of 2 acres of land in Patia Mouza vide plot no.- 320 under Khata no.- 491 in favour of Chandradhwaja on the basis of forged documents in connivance with some staff of Bhubaneswar Tehsil office.

In the year 1979, accused Chandradhwaja had applied for the lease of a plot of land measuring 2 acres for agricultural purpose, by falsely claiming that he was a landless agricultural labourer having an income of Rs 2000 per annum.

As per Waste Land Lease Register for the year 1979, one WL case was registered against the accused. Lease wafinally granted in favour of the accused by forging the documents and the record keeper was directed to correct the RoR and issue patta to the accused, the DIG said.

“After a thorough investigation, today we have arrested the accused and forwarded him to the court. Investigation of the case is on” the DIG added.
