Odisha man attempts to kill son-in-law over love marriage

Berhampur: Disgruntled over love marriage of his daughter, a man attempted to kill his son-in-law near Punjikaya Chhak under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district last night.

The youth identified as Sanjay Gouda of Kalyanpur village is undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in critical condition.

As per reports, Sanjay was attacked with a knife by his father-in-law at Punjikaya Chhak at around 10.30 PM yesterday. Hearing his scream, when a few locals rushed to the spot, accused Umakanta Gouda fled the spot. Sanjay, who sustained grievous injuries in his stomach and head, was rushed to a community health centre (CHC) and later shifted to MKCG hospital.

Sources said Sanjay was in love with Umakanta’s daughter Jayanti and had married her in a temple in presence of both of their family members and relative on June 30.The couple was staying in a rented house near Punjikaya Chhak.

Though the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that Umakanta attacked his son-in-law since he was not happy with the love marriage of his daughter.

However, no police complaint was lodged in this connection till last reports came in.
