Odisha man beats ‘unruly’ son, inscribes ‘ass’ on back to teach lesson

Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a person allegedly thrashed and undressed his minor son before inscribing an abusive word on his back to teach a lesson for trivial mistake.

The incident reported from Telkoi area in Keonjhar district on Tuesday triggered discontent among locals.

Acting swiftly, the police arrested the father of the minor boy on charges of child abuse and domestic assault.

According to reports, the victim is the only child of Ashwini Patra, who is a banker and veterinarian Dr Diptimayee Badhei. He is the Class-I student of a private English medium school.

Sources said that the father had been assaulting him physically since Monday for making some mistakes during study. On Tuesday, he allegedly abused him and drove him out of home out of anger. The torture on the little child did not end there. The angry father allegedly stripped his son and wrote ‘Gadha’ (ass) on his back as part of extreme humiliation for neglecting studies.

Being tortured by father, the scared son started running towards a local market to save himself. The locals spotted the child and found injury marks on his body. They later informed the police about the incident.

On receiving information, the police reached the site and rescued the minor boy. The police registered a suo-moto case under sections 341, 294, 506, 323 and 325 of IPC and section 75 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 and arrested the father.

When being asked about the incident, the accused said that he wanted to warn his son for mischief. He refuted the allegation saying the outsiders are just creating a mountain out of a molehill.

On the other hand, the child has been handed over to the mother.
