Forty-year-old Natabar Naik from Alasu village under Jagannathprasad police limits in Ganjam district was found unconscious in a pool of blood inside a Shaivite shrine in the village yesterday. The superstitious man reportedly cut his testicles and offered it to Nandi – the bull which serves as the mount of Lord Shiva.

A devout Naik was spotted by the priest and gardener worshipping inside the temple since Thursday night. While the priest locked the temple after finishing the rituals yesterday afternoon, Naik was still there elongated before the Lord.

Upon his return to the temple in the afternoon at around 3.30 pm yesterday, the priest found blood droplets in the premises leading to Naik in a pool of blood. No sooner, the priest informed the temple management and people nearby. One of the members of the trust informed the local police. The cops rescued Naik and rushed the profusely bleeding man to Bhanjanagar hospital in a 108 ambulance.

While Naik remained unconscious in the hospital, police are awaiting his recovery following which they would come to uncover the mystery behind such incident.

We are waiting for Natabar Naik’s recovery. We can only record his statement and know further about the incident after he recuperates from the injury. Further investigation is on, an official of Belaguntha police station said.

According to reports, Naik was suffering from epilepsy for which he tried several medications but in vain. The medical condition is believed to be the reason behind Naik resorting to such extreme step.

The bizarre incident took place at a village in Belaguntha block under Gangpur police limits in the district.

Police had recovered a blood-stained knife from the temple.

Meanwhile, the incident has sent shockwaves in the area.
