Bhadrak, Apr 28:

Family members of a deceased youth of Padhi Sahi village under Tihidi police limits in Odisha’s Bhadrak district as per his last wishes dressed his body in wedding attire-sherwani, turban, et al like a groom before taking him to the cremation ground for the last rites.

According to reports, the deceased youth Kartik Nayak was to tie the nuptial knot today. But Kartik died yesterday after allegedly consuming spurious liquor on Wednesday while attending the 11th day ritual of one Sudhakar Nayak of his village.

Keeping with Kartik’s last wishes, his family members dressed him in wedding suits brought for his marriage while taking his body to the cremation ground.

Along with Kartik seven others had also consumed spurious liquor on the fateful day.

All of them were admitted to privately owned Salandi Hospital at Bhadrak after their health condition had turned critical following consumption of liquor sold by local bootleggers.

“I had taken liquor. After consuming the liquor I had nausea accompanied with dizziness. We had bought the stuff from the shop in our village,” said Suresh Nayak, one of the victims.

While others are undergoing treatment at the hospital, Kartik breathed his last yesterday in the night.

On being informed of the tragic incident, Bhadrak Sub Collector Narottam Behera and other officials of the district administration visited the private hospital to enquire about the health of others undergoing treatment there.

“We have directed Tihidi IIC and Excise Superintendent to visit the village and conduct an inquiry into the matter. After the inquiry is done and the report is available, further action will be taken,” said Bhadrak Sub Collector Narottam Behera.

Police have begun an investigation into the matter.
