Odisha man engaged to conserve forest dies in wildfire

Karanjia: In a tragic incident, a person engaged by the Forest department for conservation of forests in Mayurbhanj district died when wildfire broke out today. The incident occurred in a forest near Jadabila village under Thakurmunda police limits in the district.

The deceased, Jadumani Mahanta from Jadabila was engaged to protect saplings planted in the forest. While he was on duty, fire broke out in the forest at around 1 PM.

Instead of trying to escape from the spot, Mahanta remained there and attempted to bring the flames under control. But he failed in his efforts amid the raging forest fire and died in no time.

After being informed Fire Service personnel reached the forest and doused the flames. Mahanta’s half-burnt body was also recovered from the forest.
