Odisha man fined Rs 26K for minor son’s traffic violation

Cuttack: Allowing minor son to ride motorcycle proved costly for a man after RTO officials imposed a hefty fine of Rs 26,000 on the former in Baranga police station area in Cuttack today.

Sources said one Sagar Parida, son of one Mangaraj Parida of Baranga area, was riding a scooter without wearing helmet today. Near Baranga Chhak, traffic cops and RTO officials intercepted him and slapped a fine of Rs 26,000 on the minor’s father. While Rs 1,000 was fined for driving without helmet, Rs 25,000 penalty was imposed for allowing the minor to drive vehicle.

The owner of the two-wheeler bearing number OD05 AJ1512 is Kailash Rout.

Justifying the action, RTO Cuttack said, “As per provision in Section 199 of the Motor Vehicles Act, for offence committed by a juvenile, his/her parents will be prosecuted and fines will be imposed upon the them for allowing their minor children to drive vehicles.”
