Odisha man gets 10-year RI for raping minor

Bhadrak: A special POCSO court in Odisha today sentenced a 35-year-old youth to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl two years ago.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge Pranati Saha, presiding over a special POCSO court, pronounced the quantum of punishment to the convict Kartik Mallick. The court awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

Mallick belongs to Taladapa village under Tihidi police limits in the district.

On May 20, 2017, the convict forcefully took the minor girl of the same village to a nearby field while she was returning home from a neighbour’s house after watching television. He raped her on that fateful night owing which her father filed a complaint with Tihidi police.

Following the complaint, the accused was arrested and tried under section 376, 506 of IPC and Sec 6 of POCSO Act.
